How to Increase Darkness in HP Printers in Windows

Laser printers and inkjet printers are the two most common types of printers used for personal or professional purposes. Before commencing with any printing repairs, you should know your printer completely and make sure which model it is. 

1. Modify Darkness Settings

If your printer is not giving you the expected printing quality, then you should try adjusting the darkness first. This can be done very easily by following a few steps. The Steps to adjust darkness:

  • Click  on the Control Panel to go to the Start Menu of your computer.
  • Click the Devices and Printers.
  • Right-click on the printer and select Printing Preferences.
  • Look for darkness settings under the Options tab and adjust as necessary.
  • Click Apply, then click OK.

If adjusting the darkness doesn’t help, try adjusting the printing speed.

Certain printers require a slower print speed to achieve a satisfactory printed quality. The image will be too faint if your printer prints too rapidly. Also, the picture could become indistinct if your printer prints very slowly.

  • Click the Faxes and Printers.
  • Right-click on the printer for your barcode and select Print Preferences.

3. Cleaning Photoconductor

Sometimes, on a laser printer, a contaminated particle gets stuck on the photoconductor. It is very easy to clean. Unplug your laser printer first to repair it. Let the photoconductor device cool down for an hour. If the tabs above are available, remove them, and then use a lint-shielded cloth to wipe the roller. After confirming that everything is completely clean, reinsert the photoconductor and ensure that the rollers and other components are reinstated.

4. Cleaning Print Heads

The ink could have dried out, and could have jammed your cartridge or print heads, if you have an inkjet printer, but have not been using it for a long time. When you locate gunk, you need to manually cleanse your print heads by rubbing them with cotton swabs dipped in alcohol. Make sure your printer is off and you have removed your cartridge from the printing press completely.   • To configure the setting, use the < or > button. Slide the slider to the left to lighten all copies or move the slider to the right, to make the entire copy darker.
  • To save selections, click Menu/Enter.

  • Now to increase the contrast select “>” and to decrease the contrast select “<”.
  • Now to save the selection and start selecting the present text choose Start copy.
  • Now to save the setting click on menu/enter without immediately printing. 

4. Modify Print Quality

To change the print quality of Inkjet printers, you have to follow the same steps as you have done for Laser printers. The only difference will be the options you choose. Inkjet printers offer three options, which are:-

  1. Draft
  2. Normal
  3. Best

From these options, select the “Best” option and save it. Doing this should solve your problem.


5. Adjust Ink volume

Inkjet printers are used mostly for personal use and it uses ink for printing.  For Inkjet printers, you can select the amount of ink used in printing. By going into advanced settings, you can adjust the ink volume used for printing. As the volume increases, the darkness will also increase, but as a consequence, the ink will dry sooner.
