Is Asus A Good Laptop Brand?

Asus manufactures more than just laptops. They create a wide range of products which helps them ins some way to make better laptops. It also helps them lower the cost of laptops.

Many people often form the conclusion that Asus is a Chinese brand which they automatically assume to be bad in quality. Firstly, Asus is a Taiwanese company operating for more than 30 years. Being an older company gives it considerable experience, which lets them create good products.

Asus has a considerable market share in laptops and offers laptops at a varied price range. They even cater to the ultra-budget sections and make flagship laptops like ROG at the top end of the price bracket.

This makes Asus very desirable for a large number of people, and they mostly do not comprise on their quality too much to cut costs. We will delve into this more in the next section.

What Makes Asus A Good Brand For Laptops?

What Makes Asus A Good Brand For Laptops?

1. Build Quality And Design

Build quality is something that varies with the products and their price range. But, it is worth noticing that almost all laptops, even at the lower tier, are well made, and their build quality is worth considering. I personally use a gaming budget laptop, and their build quality is fine for the price. It may not be the best, but it doesn’t make the experience of using the laptop unpleasant.

As for the design is concerned, Asus has led some interesting innovations and often makes good-looking laptops. Their newest lineup of Asus TUF laptops looks incredibly appealing and stylish. They also experiment with new technology in design, like the AniMe matrix display, which has an LED pixel effect on their laptop lids.

2. Technology Used

Asus has been at the forefront of technological innovations in laptops. They are one of the first laptop brands to use MUX switch and Optimus Switch in budget laptops. They also have a very popular line of laptops with 2 displays in a single laptop, which is amazing!

They even managed to make a very powerful 13-inch tablet laptop with the ability to connect external GPU (eGPU), giving it a desktop-level performance. Asus experiments with a new style of technology, and they learn from their failure to create something new and interesting.

3. Pricing

As stated earlier, Asus laptops are available at a wide range of prices. They are priced very aggressively compared to their competition. For more premium options, you have the ROG lineup, which will cost more for a premium experience, while they have TUF and Vivobook in the mid-range.

They also have super budget lineups for budget shoppers. In terms of price, Asus lists their laptops at good prices according to the specifications and do not overprice their products.

4. Warranty And After-Sales Service

Asus has a really good network of service centres in India. They have a number of official showrooms and service centres in all major cities across India. Even in smaller towns, they tie up with local shops to provide authentic service points.

Most of their laptops come with 1 year – 2 years of warranty depending on the lineup of their laptop. You can also opt for extending the warranty at an extra cost.

How Does Asus Brand Perform Compared To Other Laptop Brands?

1. Asus vs Lenovo Laptops

Asus and Lenovo are both direct competitors in various segments. While Asus has Vivobook in the lower tier, Lenovo has Ideapad and Thinkbook. In the premium segment, Lenovo has Legion against ROG.

Lenovo tends to be better at the lower tier but is also more expensive than its Asus counterpart. The build quality aspect of both brands is good, which is always preferred for laptops. Specifications-wise, both are equally matched with Lenovo’s Legion, one of the first laptops to incorporate a MUX switch.

2. Asus vs Acer Laptops

Acer laptops are somewhat inferior to Asus laptops in lower-tier, mid-range, and gaming laptops. Acer’s laptops are really well-designed and good-looking, especially the laptops in the productivity segment.

Although Acer’s gaming segment, Nitro, and Predator, are good laptops, they pale in comparison to Asus’s TUF and ROG. Although Acer laptops are priced well, Acer is the most popular in the budget segment and productivity segment laptops.

3. Asus vs Dell Laptops

Dell is a great competitor to Asus and competes very aggressively with Asus laptops in all segments. Dell laptops have great build quality overall, and their quality is maintained across different segments.

You can argue that Dell is most popular in productivity and everyday laptops with their Inspiron series. Inspiron is well-priced and offers compelling laptops at a great price. Dell laptops are known for great after-sale service and robust builds.

Their gaming lineup’s G series and Alienware are competitors to Asus TUF and ROG but are significantly more expensive than Asus laptops making them less competitive.

Best Asus Laptops To Buy

1. ASUS TUF Gaming F15

A solid budget gaming laptop around 60000 designed for casual, entry-level gaming. The Asus TUF F15 is equipped with a high-performance GTX 1650 GPU. The processor used is an i5-10300H, which is an excellent match for the GTX 1650, given the pricing.

It comes with 8GB of RAM that can be upgraded to 32GB and 512GB of SSD storage that can be expanded to 1TB.

I found 8GB of RAM to be plenty for both gaming and multitasking. However, increasing the RAM to 16GB would provide you with more reliable performance.

The screen is a typical FHD IPS panel with 62% sRGB colour coverage and a refresh rate of 144Hz. This laptop is suitable for competitive games but may struggle to run recent AAA titles at medium to high settings at 1080p. The display was smooth, in my opinion, although the colour calibration could have been better.

If you’re searching for a nice cheap laptop for gaming under 60000, the Asus TUF F15 is a good choice , with the main drawback is a poor battery life, primarily due to the Intel chip.

PROS –

  • No thermal throttling or major heating issues.

CONS –

  • 2933MHz RAM is used, which is slower than the standard 3200MHz
  • Battery life could have been better

2. ASUS TUF Gaming A15

Asus TUF is another laptop line well-known for creating high-performance, low-cost PCs. The AMD Ryzen 7 4800H and RTX 3050 provide a good balance of performance and pricing.

Because of the power-efficient Ryzen processor, it has a brilliant display and a long battery life. The bulk of the games was playable at 1080p, medium to high settings, and close to 60 fps per second.

Despite the fact that some games, such as Forza Horizon 5, require more VRAM at their highest settings, I was only allowed 4GB.

Nonetheless, it runs popular titles such as Valorant and Fortnite flawlessly at high framerates, and the display adds to the gameplay experience. With a 144Hz refresh rate, I was able to play all of the games without experiencing any tearing.

The display appears flimsy, but there is no perceptible shaking, and the keyboard is comfortable to type on. Overall, if the price to performance is a concern, Asus TUFA15 is one of the best gaming laptops under 90000

PROS –

  • Excellent battery life
  • Excellent show
  • Optimus allows you to change the primary GPU for increased performance (only for external displays).
  • Processor with low power consumption

CONS –

  • Prone to heating even while doing the non-intensive tasks
  • No MUX switch

3. ASUS VivoBook 15

The Asus Vivobook 15 is powered by an Intel processor, which typically outperforms AMD, particularly at lower tiers. The dual-core Intel Celeron N4020 processor with a base frequency of 3.0 GHz powers this laptop.

It can attain a boost frequency of up to 4.1 GHz during gaming. It’s powered by Intel UHD Graphics, which can perform low-demanding games at lower resolutions and fidelity.

It should be mentioned that the Intel i3-1115G4 with Intel UHD graphics outperforms AMD Athlon processors. At the same settings and resolution, Intel UHD graphics will be able to run games at greater framerates than Radeon graphics.

The laptop is shipped in single-channel mode. It has 4 GB of DDR4 3200 MHz RAM. If you desire, you can increase the RAM to 8 GB in the future.

Cities Skyline, GTA 5, Dota 2, and other less demanding older titles will run smoothly at lower resolutions and low-medium optimised settings. You can even play games at native 1080p resolutions if you play titles that enable AMD FSR.

Overall, an excellent laptop that may be considered a good gaming laptop in India within ₹35000. It’s a good cheap laptop for daily usage.

PROS –

  • Good specs for the price
  • No heating issues
  • Can upgrade the RAM up to 8GB

CONS –

  • Slower RAM
  • Battery life could have been better

4. Asus Vivobook K15

The Asus Vivibook K15 is an excellent laptop in this price range that includes the majority of the features that a professional would require.

It is powered by an Intel i3-1115G4 processor, which is a solid budget processor capable of handling any task. I was even able to use video editing software such as Da Vinci without lag.

If you are an IT worker who requires a laptop for coding and editing, the Asus Vivobook K15 is ideal. When it comes to price/performance, the Asus Vivbook K15 is a steal.

Because it has an Intel processor, I couldn’t get a good battery life of even 6 to 7 hours on moderate usage. Thanks to the RAM capacity in dual-channel, I was able to run any application easily with 8GB of RAM, and multitasking was not an issue.

This laptop’s selling point is its display. It includes a 100% sRGB OLED display, making it ideal for video and photo processing. The colours are vibrant and accurate, and media consumption will be a pleasure on this laptop.

This laptop’s build quality and design are also excellent, and the thermal performance impressed me. At this price point, the Asus Vivobook K15 is an excellent laptop.

PROS –

  • Professional looking design
  • No heating issues
  • Good display better than competitors

CONS –

  • Battery life could have been better
Specifications

5. ASUS ROG Strix G17

Asus ROG is Asus’ flagship laptop model, and it shows in the price! While this laptop is powered by outdated non-RTX graphics, GTX 1650, which is weaker than all of the laptops featured here, it has some additional advantages and charm.

The first thing that struck me about the laptop was its excellent build quality. It has an aluminium chassis, which helps with cooling, and looks great. Even though it has a weaker GPU, it packs a lot of power into it, bringing it closer to the RTX 3050.

I could play most titles at 1080p, although with lesser settings, but I couldn’t turn up the settings for more demanding games. Nonetheless, it is ideal for competitive titles since I was able to play CS: GO and Valorant at above 100fps.

The higher-quality display made a noticeable impact on the entire gameplay experience. The 144Hz refresh rate and great reaction rate of the panel made the game as smooth as butter.

It has a 17-inch screen, which is much larger than the regular 15.6-inch display. I had a lot of fun playing competitive games on a portable system with a larger display.

If you want a brilliant display, outstanding battery life, and high build quality but are willing to give up some performance, the Asus ROG Strix could be proven useful for you whether you’re a regular gamer or a IT professional.

PROS –

  • Excellent build quality
  • Excellent cooling
